SolfetoGuides

An absolute pitch training app for iPhone

Solfeto is an iPhone app that trains absolute pitch recognition in five minute daily sessions: hear a tone, name it, with no reference note. You start with 2 pitches, C and F♯, and a new one joins when you can hold the ones you have. A check with no answers runs every seventh day and draws your curve.

A session is 60 tones

About five minutes. Every tone is one second of piano, guitar and a soft synth, in one of 4 octaves, and you press the note you heard. The session runs in four parts:

PartTonesWhat it is
Warm up8Your set, on one instrument in one octave, with answers.
Core32Your set, instrument and octave changing every tone, with answers.
Newest pitch12Half of them the pitch that joined last, with answers.
Probe8No answers, no replay. Counted toward your next pitch.

How a pitch joins

The next pitch joins when, over your last 40 tones, you are right 90 percent of the time, the middle of your answer times is under 2 seconds, and no pitch in your set is below 80 percent. Between one pitch and the next are 7 steps, so most days you pass one.

A check every seventh day

Every 7 days, 36 tones across all twelve pitches, with no answers shown. Those checks draw your curve over the 8 weeks. It is the honest number, so it is the one the app shows you.

When it gets hard

  • If a set has not been held after 5 sessions, two sessions go to the two pitches you actually mix up.
  • Missed days are fine. After a week or more away, a short check, and the programme carries on from where your ear is now.
  • After the programme, 2 sessions a week keep what you built.

It plays like a game

A streak, hearts, gems, a daily goal, a path through the 8 weeks, and a weekly league under a handle you choose. There is a separate track for intervals, too. None of it changes the training: which pitches you train, when one joins and what counts are decided by the method alone.

What it will not do

  • Play a reference note. Nothing on a training screen sounds the same from one tone to the next.
  • Colour the keys by pitch. A learner given a colour with every tone learns the colour, and the skill does not carry over.
  • Promise an outcome. It quotes the studies' numbers, not its own.

In the 2025 study most participants learned about 7 pitches. Two learned all twelve. Results vary.

What it costs

The baseline comes first and costs nothing, so you see where you start. Then 7 days of everything, free. After that it is a subscription, by the month or by the year, at the price the App Store shows in your currency.

Questions

Is Solfeto on Android?

No. Solfeto is for iPhone.

Do I need an instrument or headphones?

No instrument. A phone and five minutes. Headphones help.

Does it work offline?

No. Your training is kept in your account and nowhere else, so it is there on any phone you sign in on, and Solfeto needs a connection to load it and to save it.

What does it cost?

The App Store shows the price in your currency before you choose, by the month or by the year. The first 7 days are free, and you cancel in your Apple account settings whenever you like.
